Are You Suffering From Eyebrow Blindness? 🤨

Over the last few weeks the phrase “eyebrow blindness” has been springing up on my TikTok FYP. Seems this blindness can occur when you are— chasing a trend, stuck in the past or don’t have the right tools. If you are suffering from “eyebrow blindness”your eyebrow shape, length or shade simply does not work on your mug.
The truth is that brows frame your face, so no matter how good the other features are if the brows are wrong you won’t be presenting your optimal face card. Now, if you were trying to look cute in the late 90s/early aughts there’s a good chance your brows suffered from that pluck-around-and-find-out trend. “It girls” like Beyonce and Pam Anderson were serving an anemic, high arched, skinny brow. Many of us fell in line and followed suit.
A few of my gal pals have spent years trying to rehabilitate their over-plucked brows. For some of the damage simply couldn’t be reversed. Gen X was reared on both the bushy Brooke Shields brow and the barely there Drew Barrymore brow. We’ve really have been through it all. From the Cold War to advent of the internet -- other generation 🗣️ They Not Like Us !
In no way did I think this “eyebrow blindness” condition applied to me. The density of my brow is not particularly remarkable but they are very light in color. I’ve been adding color to my brow since middle school. I can distinctly remember getting my make-up done by a teacher for the school play. He took one look at me and yelled across the room — “This girl needs some eyebrows!”
From that moment on I’ve been hitting them with color. Was I using a weird wet-n-wild taupe back in the day — sure? But for many moons they have been totally, in my opinion, handled. I get them threaded once a month, give or take, and fill them out with the Anastasia brow pencil. My brows were not on my mind — until now.
Over on my FYP, the girlies were using an eyebrow mapping filter that is supposed to give you the perfect brow shape for your face. And each and every time the person who is mapping out their brows — rejects the results! Then you slide down to the comments and see that everyone is telling them that they look so much better with their more filled in brows. The user has to admit that they do indeed have “eyebrow blindness.”

Unrelated to this eyebrow mapping trend my new hairdresser has been pushing an eyebrow dye-job on me. She said and I quote “Everyone loves it, you will want me to do it every time.” Last week I let her dye them and gotta say — I love it.
The left side is pre-dye and the right is post. Now I have my hair and make-up done on the left and there’s good lighting so this is hard to compare but if you just focus on the brows, I do think the dyed brows on the right are better. What do you think???

Now this still looks like too much eyebrow to me but is that the “eyebrow blindness” talking?! I also think I needed to throw the phone on a tripod and have both hands free. The way I was trying to fill in the brow was giving: nursery school art project.

Guys, this is the show of the summer and I’m sorry I didn’t bring it to the ‘stack earlier. I’m recapping Love Island USA S6 over at Drama Darling with Emily Dorezas and Real Housewives impersonator to the stars - Amy Phillips! It’s about a bunch of ridiculously hot twenty-somethings looking for love. This is not a new concept, been there done that but what’s different about this show is the production. The producers are so freakin’ good at their jobs. The second you settle in with a couple they switch something up and the island is in chaos.
It’s also rolling out in real time. They are currently filming in Fiji. A new episode drops almost every night (you get a night off on Wednesdays and Saturday is a recap show.) We almost abandoned recapping the show due to the grueling watch schedule but then guess what — we started looking forward to the nightly episodes! Wednesdays are hard for us because we have the night off. It’s gotten truly wild.
Love Island USA Season 6 is coming to a close, and Peacock has set the finale for Sunday, July 21.
