Are you going to the function?

I received an important warning sign this past week that I’ve been too much of a homebody. The older I get, the less I want to leave my house. A sad, but very comfortable truth. But, this event was a good reminder that it’s important to be a person in the world.

What happened? I asked some friends to drinks.

It was clear that when I arrived on Saturday evening they all were prepared to hear an announcement. Was it my birthday? Did I win the lottery? Did I have fatal disease and I was asking all of them to help raise my beautiful daughter?

After some concerned looks, a few awkward, “So, Emily. What’s been going on?” I decided to let everyone know the truth: I just wanted to meet for drinks and hang out. Note to self: Do that more so people don’t think I’m dying.

Also, I’m excited to tell you about my drink of the summer - that’s coming up. But first, bummer alert.

ICE has been all over our neighborhood in Los Angeles. And It’s incredibly hard and heartbreaking and evil (especially when you see them stop for a taco lunch).

In weird virtual news, apparently ICE has also been all over Roblox. From Teen Vogue:

There have been Roblox players dressed as ICE agents that barged into other player’s houses. They have "arrested" a user hiding in his kitchen and chased down another player while conducting “Border Patrol” surveillance.

After the Roblox ICE invasion, thousands of players took to the “streets” to protest. This has been a way for kids to role play and express their feelings in a safe way - and for some that were unable to attend protests, they had a chance to channel their outrage. However, if you’re able to get into the real streets - it’s a fantastic feeling.

Roblox also made headlines for their Grow a Garden game, which is giving older kids some serious Farmville vibes — and it’s breaking some records. From the New York Times:

Grow a Garden, a simplistic farming simulation that involves planting seeds and collecting exotic pets, has exploded as one of the most highly played titles of the year. Technically an “experience” within the game-creation platform Roblox, it smashed its own record for concurrent users by reeling in 16.4 million active players on Saturday.

Not to be a one-note Sally, but I also think that if you’re able to plant some real living plants, it would probably also feel fantastic.

Now, just circling back to baby Bieber. We know our boy is in trouble. But, now he’s telling the world that he knows he’s in trouble. That has to be a good sign, right?
