My road to Kamala began the night Jon Stewart returned to television. Jon left his farm to cover the run-up to the election. On his first night back, he popped a photo of Biden and Trump on the screen and said —
“And we already know our candidates - it’s drumroll please - these fucking guys.”
Jon shrugged his shoulders with an “ehhhh” and a delivered a limp heart hand 🫶. He went on to feature videos of Biden struggling to communicate a coherent thought. Did I laugh? AT TIMES, but I was also deeply frustrated, I was yelling at the screen, “Jon! Don’t do this. We need every vote. Who would even take Biden’s place? No one has been presented to us. We had four years to drill down. WE HAVE NO OTHER OPTIONS!”
As we reached the summer months, Biden’s age was looming. 81 is not an age to be running a country. It’s just not an elderly person’s game - with love 🫶. But the country was in pretty good shape and Biden still felt like our best shot.
Then on June 27th the Biden vs. Trump presidential debate aired. Leading up to the debate I’d been visualizing Biden’s preparation. I imagined him in a small room with a handful of advisors slinging questions at him and running drills. I thought my guy was going to pounce onto the stage -- shooting finger guns and taking names.
Sadly, it was quite the opposite. Biden was low energy, spun around and under-prepared. And in contrast, Trump was the most even-keeled and cogent we’ve seen him since this nightmare began back in ‘15. All the fears we had about Biden’s physical and mental condition were validated. It was a disaster.
We were all somewhat frozen after that debate. The election was months away and this was our guy. What the hell do we do? I coped by throwing stats up on insta-stories. Because guess what - Biden performance looked gewd.
Job growth in Biden’s first three years outperformed any previous president.
A rise in real wages for lower-income workers is bridging the gap
The equity market is roaring - the stock market loves Biden.
Violent crimes, especially homicides, have fallen dramatically.
While I was taking to stories, George Clooney was running ads. He pleaded for Biden to step down - again THIS IS LATE GEORGE! We had four years to put someone in position. I’m famously mathematically-challenged but even I was able to crunch the numbers four years ago. Biden was always going to be 81 in 2024.
We were all holding our breath.
Then, 24 days after the debate, President Joseph Robinette (always a surprise) Biden, withdrew from the presidential campaign putting country before self. But who the hell was going to be the next Democratic nominee!? Some of the names floating around were: Gavin Newson, Pete Buttigieg, Joe Manchin and fantasy pick — Michelle Obama.
When it was announced that Biden was endorsing Kamala Harris my stomach dropped. I did not think that there was energy around her as a candidate. Watching Harris debate back in 2019 did not inspire confidence. The tough-as-nails woman we had watched on the senate floor was replaced by someone trying on a more palatable persona and she was floundering.
Then something happened that still feels otherworldly - the collective sharp breath we had been holding for months was released and we became SUPERCHARGED FOR HARRIS.
24-hours after being endorsed she raised a record breaking $81 million.
From the moment Kamala presented Gov. Tim Walz as her inspired choice for running mate till this moment we are in today, Kamala has - in my opinion - made all the right campaign moves.
The experience she gained over the last four years has been on full display and she’s been in the motherf*cking pocket.
Kamala has been campaigning and having conversations every single place she can pick up votes. Between her interview with Howard Stern where she talked about having a diverse cabinet including republican representation. To her very candid chat with Alex Cooper on Call Her Daddy, where Kamala talked about the importance of women having ownership over their bodies, a place where government has no business. Kamala also discussed sexual abuse and making America safer for women —
"When a woman and particularly if she has children, if she is economically reliant on her abuser, she is less likely to leave, because most women will endure whatever personal, physical pain they must in order to make sure their kids have a roof over their head or food."
Kamala is leaving it on the damn field. No stone unturned. Kamala has met the moment she’s found herself in and it has been spectacular to witness. I love how she’s approached the momental task of securing her role as President of the United States in what can only be described as a - time crunch. And I absolutely love how she has managed to not center herself, which feels very new and exciting. She has a clear plan for the country, with a moderate approach - it’s exactly what we need. Plus, Kamala is - less old.
Not only am I voting for Kamala Devi Harris to be the 47th President of The United States but it is the most excited I’ve been to cast a vote in my lifetime.
God bless Kamala Harris and God bless America 🇺🇸.
