As we march along this road we call life — new words and phrases pop up like dandelions. At HTBLO we do our best to pick those dandelions, understand them and blow their seeds your way. But it seems, some terms simply— never got plucked. Or maybe it was that they were so commonplace it was embarrassing to reveal that we/ I (Deanna Marie Veronica Cheng) didn’t know them. Now I’m not entirely sure where Emily stands on these terms but I am going to lay my soul bare and unpack the following: ‘cap’ and ‘sprinkle, sprinkle.’

Last podcast Emily drilled down on the term 'sigma.’ You usually call a guy who is cool a sigma but more often than not it is used ironically. As promised I reached out to some youths to see if they could give us a little more context.

Oh! I will also be shinning a spotlight on a West Elm credenza dupe because —why not? I have a Substack and I’m going to use it.

BUT FIRST ! I received a text from my friend Jenny that read: “Thank god for your podcast.”

Because of HBTLO she was able to pass a pop quiz issued by her 10-year-old with flying colors:

This is why we DO WHAT WE DO!

Okay, moving onto to our continuing education - let’s start with Sigma. I asked Daphne T. (13) if she was aware of the term. Here’s what she had to say:

It’s the better version of an “alpha” someone with a lot of “rizz”

Gosh it feels good to have alpha and rizz under our belts doesn’t it! I asked Daphne if she wouldn’t mind putting ‘sigma’ into a sentence for us.

“That sigma over there just rizzed up my friend”

This is why our English teachers were so horny for context. It really does help lock it in!

My pal slash subscriber (best kind of pal) - Mary Payne Gilbert (host of the podcast Pink Shade) did the lord’s work and grilled her 18-year-old son. Hear👂🏻what John (18) had to say about ‘sigma’ :

John revealed that Patrick Bateman (American Psycho) and Andrew Tate were classic ‘sigma’ men which tracks with our learnings. He also revealed that no one says ‘sigma’ anymore - it’s very 2023. We are nothing if not late.

MOVING ONTO ‘CAP’
