TGIF let’s learn some new terms to take into the weekend!

Youth correspondent Emma W. (16) hopped on the horn with me for a lingo download. It’s one thing to have the knowledge of what a term means but it’s another to have a youth guide you through the correct application. This is where we level up. A vague understanding is only half the battle.

Let’s start easy with some light acronym work —

OTPHJ - Over The Pants Hand Job.

Now this one was pulled off the small screen and not co-signed by a youth. One of the f*ckboys from Bravo’s “Summerhouse” proudly rattled it off in an effort to find out if their friend had hooked up with a girl. They wondered if he had received an over the pants hand job on a ride out to the Hamptons. I suspect this may be a site specific acronym. That said, it felt important to bring to the ‘stack. If we see something, we say something.

DTM - doing too much.

The way Emma explained this really made me laugh. It seems like the teens use this, at times, to check themselves. Emma gave the example of a friend having a minor assignment due at 4pm. She was at a coffee shop with wifi problems and would have to wait to get home to send out the assignment. The friend considered emailing her teacher and sharing that the assignment would arrive in her inbox at 5pm.

As she was drafting the email she stopped, paused and proclaimed “I’m DTM.” Emma’s friend was indeed “doing too much.” There would be no repercussions for getting the assignment in at 5pm so why were we spinning out. She calmly finished her matcha green tee late and headed home to complete the assignment.

@bennyincThey are both DTM - trust me fellas

Of course, DTM is OD’s kissing cousin.

You might remember that OD was featured in our mukbang of terms just a month ago.

OD - overdoing it.

If you hear a youth saying OD the hairs on your back will of course stand up. Our first thought is going to be overdose. But before you go too far down that road lean in and get some more context clues, they may just be describing someone who is overdoing it. Emma tried to explain that although these terms can be interchangeable a youth would instinctually know when to apply which. This felt like a challenge. I presented several possibilities and chose wrong every time.
